Belem on the Amazon

The Amazon is a huge delta of rivers which all join to form one giant river which we call the Amazon.
At Belem the river is 300 kms wide, but with hundreds of islands between the two river banks
At Manaus (1200 kms upstream) there are two major rivers which join up - the Solimoes and the Rio Negro.
